Musart is a collaboration by the Creatavision Partners, Brian Omundsen and Clinton Herdman. The resulting album and artwork was toured in NZ from July 2006 to May 2007.
Brian wrote, performed and recorded in his home studio an album of originals, and artist Clinton Herdman worked alongside and created 10 large and stunning originals linked to each of the songs.
The original paintings were done in colour pastels. Prints, cards and giclee prints were produced for sale on the tour.
The album is a collection of songs expressing experiences, people met, thoughts & feelings as one would expect from any musical artist. The songs encompass blues, light jazz, ballads and more. The songs are a rich tapesty of instruments including drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, synths and of course saxophone, harmonicas and layered vocals.
The artwork is a visual symphony of the music and lyrics of the songs. Done in rich coloured pastels and using a strong combination of real and surreal, detail and form.
With over 400 albums sold, and hundreds of prints, cards and originals sold of the artwork, the tour was a humble success financially.
As a concept born from the creative juices of artists with shared interests - forged in the fires of grim determination and self belief - created from long hours of sheer hard work - it is a resounding (pun intended) success - - - and it will forever stand as a tribute to the talents, heart and soul of its creators.
Often an idea becomes greater than the sum total of its parts, and the Musart album (titled 'Reachout') and the associated artwork is no exception. It was humbling to see how many people were moved by this compilation of music and art on the tour. Hopefully many more will also be moved in the years to come.
A huge thank you goes out to everyone that has supported Musart in one way or another - whether it was by buying an album or book, helping us set up, offering us a meal or place to stay - the list is so long and we are truly grateful.
